Two Cool New Purchases!

I found a beautiful 1900s calico dress and bought it on installments.  It is scheduled to arrive tomorrow!  I can't wait to see it in person and get a good look at the fabric.  I want to someday get a dress form and display this beauty in my bedroom.

This is my other treasure I found on ebay.. Its an 1800s powder horn.  Even has initials carved in the bottom.  I want to get a canteen and hunting bag too some day and hang them on the wall. 

Its funny a year ago I would have never thought of wanting a powder horn! They are quite interesting so many beautiful ones with scrimshawing.. I just love to have a piece of history!

My Two Early Calico Dresses

I have seen some lovely displays of antique fabric.. I love the early blue calico clothing, but the prices are too much for my budget.  I recently came across these black calicos.. I love them and can't wait to display them.  They are from the late 1800s.

I am pretty sure the black calicos were for mourning, but I love them just the same..  when I look at these old pieces of history I wonder about the women or young ladies who wore them, and what their lives were like.. 

I would love to have a dress form to display a dress on,  but if not I will put them on a peg rack in my bedroom.  

I feel honored to own such lovely pieces of history.

House Pics

It's been a while since I posted.. thought I would share some pics of the house and my decorating.  I haven't really made alot of exciting changes I have added to my collections.  Its hard to know what to collect, for instance alot of people collect pewter.  Its lovely but I am not sure it fits with who I am.  I think I am better focusing on collecting wooden items like old wood bowls and the like.. wooden bowls are sure expensive on ebay.. I was delighted to find a huge wooden bowl with beautiful large rag balls for 7.99 last weekend.  I am convinced it was nothing short than a blessing from God.  It may sound silly but I have been really trying to understand God's love and it has been hard for me to understand his love.  I understand his righteousness but his love is something that I am trying to understand.  I think He delights in giving us things we enjoy.  Here are my rag balls..

I have been focusing on collecting some early blue calico.  I have been fortunate to collect some beautiful dolls by Alecia Maynard.  Here they are.. I love the early blues and the meticulous hand stitching.  Alecia is a lovely person too!

This is one of my favorites! She is a big girl she sits in a prim child's chair..

And now my cabin dolls... This is my big girl she is about 16" tall I think..

I guess I get carried away with the early calico.. I decided to overhaul this candlestick light..

 I have been painting signs and selling various things on ebay - decluttering which enables me to replace old things with new.. I have been able to finally buy an Heirloom Weavers blanket and pillow shams.  I want to get a coverlet but I need to save alot of pennies!  When I finally get everything situated I will snap a pic!

I have been migrating toward lightening and neutralizing in my living room.. I favor blues but it is difficult to incorporate blue in the color scheme.. I have a red fireplace that originally had a "screaming white" mantle.  I have been working on painting all my woodwork a soft mustard shade.. Here are some pics of the room in progress.  I painted my prairie sign this weekend not sure if I like it better.. and I also repainted my grandparents cabinet interior back to aged white from the blue..

Do you think its too colorless/monochromatic? The walls aren't white but buff actually..

This cabinet is quite a treasure to me - my folks keep after me to redo the base but I like the chippy paint.. it was my grandparents from the farm house Dad was born in - it is now burned down and I scarcely got the cabinet out before it was destroyed.  Dad repaired the base and he and I worked hard at saving the top.  The middle shelves were married in, built by Dad for me for helping him put stockade fence up :) great trade I'd say..

My latest work..

Here are two of my most recent designs.. I have long admired the pretty printing on the antique Ivory soap labels.. this sign is a variation of the old soap packaging.. perfect for the bathroom!  Hand painted in Ivory with dark navy lettering.. and primitively distressed!

Primitive Welcome! So glad you stopped by my blog!  I am Andrea of Etters Farmhouse Primitives.  I handpaint OOAK primitive signs that are nostalgic inspired.  I also do custom work if there is something you would like created.. I have painted signs for primitive shops so if you need a sign for your booth I am your girl!   I sell my signs on Etsy, facebook and once in a while on ebay :)   Recently my work was featured in the May 2013 issue of Country Sampler - Cora Townsend's home in Washington.  My "Star Biscuit" sign was featured hanging above her sink in her beautiful kitchen.
